Green Spaces & Sustainability 

At Long Road Sixth Form College you can experience the best of both worlds, studying on a spacious green and leafy campus just a short walk from the lively city centre of Cambridge. Breathing in the fresh air as you take a stroll along our woodland walk will make you feel a world away from city life. With several thousand trees on campus, including a number of rare species such as an Indian Bean Tree and Giant Redwood, we are very wildlife friendly – keep an eye out for foxes, rabbits, pheasants, ducks and owls! 

At Long Road we are committed to sustainability and playing our part in addressing the climate crisis. As well as encouraging environmentally friendly activities, such as recycling, we embed environmental education across the curriculum. If you’re interested in making our community a greener place, you can get involved in the Biodiversity Club and complete the nationally recognised Carbon Literacy programme, gaining certification and qualifying as a trainer in your own right.

As part of our commitment to become net-zero as soon as possible, our students recently planted 100 new trees on campus - kindly gifted to us by the Woodland Trust. The planting of these Oaks and Silver Birches is all part of our re-wilding project and plans to further increase the biodiversity of our campus.

Cambridge Biomedical Campus

The Cambridge Biomedical Campus borders Long Road Sixth Form College placing you at the heart of cutting-edge scientific research. This prestigious reputation and history of Cambridge continues to attract international STEM sector companies such as AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Apple, Amazon, ARM and the Wellcome Sanger Institute, some of whom are our neighbours. Our highly-qualified staff have developed strong links with those working on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus putting you in an excellent position to learn from world-leading academics and industry specialist scientists.

The Heart of Cambridge

Outside your lessons, you will have the opportunity to explore the world-famous city of Cambridge.

 If you’re studying DT, Art, or Photography, the beautiful architecture of the city is the perfect inspiration for your next piece of artwork. Climb the tower of Great St Marys church for the best views of the city centre, before crossing the road where you can visit the iconic King’s College Chapel. English students might choose to take a scenic 15-minute bicycle ride across Granchester Meadows and visit The Orchard Tea Rooms, a favourite hang-out spot of great writers such as Virgina Woolf and William Wordsworth. We can give our Geographers and Biologists a free pass to the Botanic Gardens, so you can expand your knowledge on everything from tropical plants to British wildlife.

A sunny day is the perfect time to go punting along the River Cam, giving you a unique view of the University of Cambridge – perhaps you’re aspiring to study there? We’ll support you to achieve that goal!
