Musical Theatre Level 3 Applied
Course Overview
Musical Theatre is a highly practical course, providing you with the necessary skills and opportunities you need to develop into a ‘triple threat’ performer. The course consists of a combination of rehearsals, performances, reports, journals, and presentations, allowing the Musical Theatre performer to be fully understood.
This course is available to study as an Extended Certificate (60-credit course, equivalent to 1 A Level)
Key Musical Theatre practitioners will be explored, and a range of repertoire learnt. You will develop your singing technique and jazz dance skills, before learning how to successfully bring together your acting, singing, and dancing skills into a Musical Theatre performance. You will continuously evaluate your skill development and set yourself targets in development journals. This leads onto the performance of a full musical and devising of a Musical Theatre piece in the second year when all of these skills can be put into practise.
You will be expected to take part in Performing Arts enrichment such as choir, dance technique, LAMDA college productions. This will support the development of your performance skills ready for the future!
The professional approach gives you the preparation you need to pursue a Musical Theatre course at a top conservatoire, or a University based course. The course also supports a range of transferable skills to further any career in Performing Arts.

Musical Theatre is a highly practical course where you will develop your singing, acting and dancing skills every week. You will rehearse and perform a range of repertoire and learn about key practitioners. You will also audition for and perform in a full musical, and learn to create your own musical in the final group devised piece.
We go and see as many musicals as we can in a range of venues. Recent trips have included ‘Heathers’, ‘Six’, ‘Matilda’ and ‘Cabaret’. We have had talks and workshops with West End performers, top conservatoires and auditions coaches to support you with future training and career paths.

Skills you'll gain
You will develop the singing, dancing and acting skills you need to become a ‘triple threat’ performer. Not only will you develop your technical and performance skills in these areas, you will also develop rehearsal skills and build your confidence.
You will develop research and written skills, along with presenting skills. The development of your practical skills in year one will lead to application of these skills to a full musical production and your own devised piece in the second year.
After Long Road
Progression from the Musical Theatre course can lead to study at University or Performing Arts Conservatoires. Students have progressed onto Musical Theatre courses, as well as specialised Acting and Dance courses.
The course is ideal for students who would like to follow a career in an aspect of the performing arts. It is also of benefit in careers such as Education and Training; Public Relations and Marketing; and Media and Broadcasting.
The course develops your musical theatre skills incredibly and is suitable for a wide range of abilities, exploring many different genres and styles with every class being enjoyable. The community that is fostered with your peers and teachers is very valuable, knowing you can rely on each other to help you excel.
