How can I get involved with Parliament Week at Long Road College?

• Bring along lunch and watch Prime Minister's’ Questions, Live from Westminster from 12pm on Wednesday 8th November in K103

• Visit the Parliament Week display in the LRC and look at the variety and range of books available.

• Enter the ‘Parliament Realised’ college wide art competition

• Enter the Democracy in Maths challenge to determine which is the most democratic electoral system for the UK Parliament.

• Look up and contact your local MP to look into the possibility of work experience with their office.

Parliament Realised  - A celebration of the UK Parliament in the visual arts

You are invited to take part in a unique art competition to design an original piece of work that celebrates the democratic role or work of the UK Parliament. Works can be submitted in any media and a prize will be awarded to the winner.

• Artworks can be created in any format and the topic of the composition is down to the artist.
• The work must be related to the UK Parliament but there is no specific theme that this must take.
• Works can be historical or contemporary or both. They could also focus on the roles of individuals or the institution itself.
• Artworks must be the original work of the student submitting them.

The deadline for entries is 4.30pm on Friday 1st December 2023. Please bring your completed submission sheet to the Politics Office (K105). The submission sheet is available to download at the bottom of this page.

Is democracy mathematical? A celebration of the UK Parliament and psephology

You are invited to take part in a unique maths competition to investigate whether it is mathematically possible to work out which is the most democratic electoral system for elections in the UK. 

• Contestants are advised to read the briefing materials prior to attempting the competition. Briefing materials are available to download at the bottom of this page. 
• The answer must be presented in the form of a short report with a strong emphasis on how you have reached your conclusions in answer to the question, is democracy mathematical? Please show your reasoning.
• Reports must be the original work of the student submitting them.

The deadline for entries is 4.30pm on Friday 1st December 2023. Please bring your completed submission sheet to the Politics Office (K105). The submission sheet is available to download at the bottom of this page.
