Long Road student Amélie Hacker Sets Sail for Success!

Congratulations to student Amélie on winning the 2024 Royal Yachting Association British Youth Nationals!

Amélie sat down with our Sport Services Technician, Lauren, to tell us all about her success and what is next in her sailing journey...

What inspired you to start sailing?

I started sailing when I was around 5 and my mum taught me. Until I was around 13/14 I did it for fun. But when the lockdown came, I made the decision to train properly, aiming to go to the Olympics.

What is your proudest achievement?

I think the achievement I am most proud of would be when I won the Youth Nationals 2024 and was the female ILCA 6 British representative for the ISAF youth world in Lake Garda 2024, in which I came 17th overall.

How do you balance you studies at Long Road with training?

Balancing training with school will be a big task, especially in my last A level year. However, doing early revision and staying on top of schoolwork makes it achievable and a good goal for the coming year.

Are you looking to compete at Olympic level or within any international competitions?

I would like to go to the ISAF Youth Worlds 2025 in Portugal as it’s a big steppingstone achievement on route.
